Where Henderson accidents happen

Henderson has freeway corridors, wide arterial roads, busy shopping districts, master-planned neighborhoods, and routes that lead out toward the lakes. The type of road you were on often shapes the type of crash and the evidence that matters.

Aerial view of two roads crossing in dry desert terrain

I-11 / US-95 and the I-215. Two freeway corridors cross Henderson. Where on-ramps feed into fast lanes and traffic backs up near exits, rear-end and lane-change collisions are a real risk. Injuries at freeway speed can be severe. Interchanges in and near the city include the I-215 at Stephanie Street and Green Valley Parkway, the Eastern Avenue exit just outside city limits, and the junction where the I-215 meets I-11/US-95.

St. Rose Parkway. St. Rose Parkway (State Route 146) links I-15 with the I-215 across the south side of the valley. Drivers turning at signals, such as where St. Rose Parkway crosses Eastern Avenue, or pulling out of store driveways can cause side-impact crashes.

Eastern Avenue and Stephanie Street. These north-south roads pass both neighborhoods and shopping centers. Cars cut across lanes to reach parking lots, and people on foot cross between plazas.

Green Valley Parkway, Sunset Road, and Warm Springs Road. These arterials run through established parts of the city. Commuters share them with school traffic and with residents turning in from side streets, so left-turn and intersection crashes are a concern.

Horizon Ridge Parkway. This parkway crosses the south side of the city, meeting Green Valley Parkway and Stephanie Street on its way to Horizon Drive. Drivers coming out of side streets may misjudge oncoming cars.

Lake Mead Parkway toward the lakes. Lake Mead Parkway carries residents and visitors east toward Lake Las Vegas and the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Vehicles towing boats, drivers who don't know the area, and weekend crowds all add risk.

School zones and residential streets. Children walking to class, cyclists, and drivers backing out of garages all share these streets. Lower speed limits help, but a person on foot or on a bike can still be seriously hurt.

Injury cases we handle for Henderson clients

Car accidents. A Henderson car crash claim can come from a rear-end hit in freeway traffic, a left-turn collision on an arterial, or a sideswipe where two lanes merge into one. The claim may involve the at-fault driver's insurer, your own policy, and sometimes a company that owned the other vehicle. Neck, back, and head injuries are not always obvious on the day of the crash, so getting medical records early can matter. Read more on our car accident lawyer page.

Rideshare crashes. Rideshare cases often depend on which insurance policy was active when the crash happened. Passengers and other drivers can read more in the rideshare accident lawyer overview.

Crashes caused by impaired drivers. An injury claim against an impaired driver is separate from any criminal case the state brings. Our drunk driving accident lawyer page covers these claims in depth.

Truck and commercial vehicle crashes. A collision with a semi-truck, delivery van, or work vehicle can involve a trucking company, the vehicle owner, and several insurers. Read about truck accident claims.

Motorcycle crashes. If a driver failed to see you on your bike, start here: motorcycle accident lawyer.

Pedestrian and bicycle injuries. People hit in crosswalks, parking lots, or school zones may have claims against the driver. Learn about pedestrian accident claims or read our article on pedestrian accident laws in Las Vegas.

Falls on someone else's property. A wet floor in a grocery store, a broken stair at an apartment complex, or poor lighting in a parking lot can lead to a premises claim. Learn about slip and fall cases.

Dog bites. Bites and knockdowns can happen on sidewalks, in parks, or at a neighbor's door. The dog bite lawyer section explains what to write down and keep.

Losing a family member. When a crash or other incident takes someone's life, certain relatives may bring a claim. Read about wrongful death claims in Nevada.

Life-changing injuries. Brain injuries, spinal cord damage, amputations, and severe burns can affect work and family life for years. Find out more about catastrophic injury claims.

Nevada law and your Henderson injury claim

Filing deadlines

In Nevada, you generally have two years from the date of the injury to file a personal injury lawsuit (NRS 11.190(4)(e)). Waiting can also let video get erased and witnesses forget details. Our article on the Nevada statute of limitations for personal injury explains more.

Sharing fault for the crash

You can recover compensation even if you were partially at fault — as long as your share of fault is 50 percent or less. Your recovery will be reduced by your percentage of fault. For examples, read our article on comparative negligence under NRS 41.141.

If the other driver is uninsured or underinsured

Under NRS 687B.145(2), Nevada auto insurers must offer uninsured and underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage, and under NRS 690B.020, uninsured motorist coverage is included in a policy unless the policyholder rejects it in writing. If you have this coverage, your own policy may help cover losses the other driver's insurance does not.

We explain how a claim can move forward when the at-fault driver is uninsured. For what a claim can include, see the types of damages Nevada law recognizes.

Henderson police and courts

Crashes on Henderson city streets are generally handled by the Henderson Police Department. Crashes on freeways such as I-11 and I-215 may fall to the Nevada Highway Patrol. The agency that responds keeps the crash report.

Larger injury lawsuits go to Clark County's Eighth Judicial District Court. Henderson also has its own justice court and municipal court. If the other driver gets a traffic ticket, that is handled separately from your injury claim.

If a government entity is involved

Claims against government entities are subject to special procedural rules and notice requirements under Nevada law. This can matter if a city vehicle, a public employee, or public property played a part in your injury.

Steps to take after a Henderson accident

  1. Get medical care right away. Go to an emergency room or urgent care if you are hurt. Hospitals in the area include facilities such as Henderson Hospital and St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Siena Campus.
  2. Find out which agency came. Ask whether the officer is with Henderson Police or the Nevada Highway Patrol, and keep the report or event number.
  3. Take pictures. Photograph both vehicles from several angles, debris on the road, traffic signals, the street signs at the closest intersection, and any visible injuries.
  4. Collect witness contacts. Ask people who saw the crash for a name and phone number. If it happened near a store or gas station, ask the manager whether a camera may have recorded it.
  5. Tell your own insurer. Report the crash as your policy requires, and save the claim number.
  6. Watch what you say. Be careful about giving a recorded statement to the other driver's insurance company before you understand your rights.
  7. Start a folder. Keep bills, discharge papers, prescriptions, and pay stubs that show lost hours.
