Where Summerlin Accidents Happen

Summerlin is a planned community of residential villages, parks, and trails. Some of the busiest roads on the west side of the valley also run through it. Different parts of Summerlin tend to produce different kinds of crashes and injuries.

The 215 Beltway. The western 215 runs through Summerlin. At interchanges such as Lake Mead Blvd, Summerlin Parkway, Town Center Dr, Charleston Blvd, and Sahara Ave, drivers merge quickly and change lanes at speed. Rear-end and sideswipe crashes can start there.

Summerlin Parkway. The parkway connects Summerlin to US-95 and the rest of the valley. Commuters fill the ramps at Rampart Blvd and Town Center Dr, where traffic can slow suddenly and drivers merge at highway speed.

Charleston Blvd and Sahara Ave. These east-west corridors connect Summerlin to central Las Vegas. Shopping centers, gas stations, and driveways line both roads, so turning vehicles, red-light running, and pedestrians crossing mid-block are hazards.

Downtown Summerlin. Traffic can be heavy around the shops, restaurants, and offices near Festival Plaza Dr, Town Center Dr, and Sahara Ave. Pedestrians, drivers, rideshare vehicles, and delivery vehicles all share parking garages, crosswalks, and pickup areas. With this much retail activity, falls in stores, restaurants, and parking areas also happen.

Red Rock and the western edge. West of the 215, Charleston Blvd (SR 159) continues toward Red Rock Canyon. Visitors who don't know the road share it with cyclists, tour vehicles, and residents. Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa, on W Charleston Blvd near the 215, also draws visitor and rideshare traffic.

Neighborhood streets. Rampart Blvd, Hualapai Way, Town Center Dr, and Far Hills Ave connect the villages. These roads carry school-zone traffic, cyclists, dog walkers, and people at trail crossings, along with construction traffic serving newer neighborhoods on Summerlin's west edge.

Injury Cases We Handle in Summerlin

Car accidents. These include rear-end collisions on the Summerlin Parkway, T-bone crashes at intersections along Charleston and Sahara, and sideswipes at 215 merges. A car accident claim can involve your own insurer, the other driver's insurer, and sometimes more than one at-fault driver. Minor-looking crashes can still cause neck, back, and head injuries that show up later. Learn more on our car accident lawyer page.

Commercial vehicle crashes. Delivery, construction, and commercial trucks use the 215, the parkway, and the loading areas in Downtown Summerlin every day. See our Summerlin truck accident lawyer page.

Riders on two wheels. Riders heading to Red Rock or traveling the west-valley corridors can face drivers who don't see them. See our motorcycle accident lawyer page.

Pedestrian accidents. These include crashes at crosswalks around Downtown Summerlin, in school zones, and at trail crossings. See our pedestrian accident lawyer page.

How Nevada Law Applies to a Summerlin Injury Claim

Deadlines

In Nevada, you generally have two years from the date of the injury to file a personal injury lawsuit (NRS 11.190(4)(e)). Some claims have different or additional requirements, so it's best to talk to a lawyer early.

If You Were Partly at Fault

You can recover compensation even if you were partially at fault — as long as your share of fault is 50 percent or less. Your recovery will be reduced by your percentage of fault. Learn more in our guide to comparative negligence in Nevada.

When the Other Driver Has Little or No Insurance

Under NRS 687B.145(2), Nevada auto insurers must offer uninsured and underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) coverage, and under NRS 690B.020, uninsured motorist coverage is included in a policy unless the policyholder rejects it in writing. If you have this coverage, your own policy may help cover losses the other driver's insurance does not. Our car accident lawyer page explains more.

Claims Involving Government Entities

Claims against government entities are subject to special procedural rules and notice requirements under Nevada law.

To understand what a claim can include, see our guide to personal injury damages in Nevada.

What to Do After an Accident in Summerlin

  1. Call 911 and get medical care, even if you feel okay. Some injuries show up hours or days later.
  2. Write down the police report or event number, and note which agency responded.
  3. Photograph the vehicles, the scene, the nearest cross street, and your injuries. In Downtown Summerlin or a shopping center, note the store name or garage level.
  4. Get names and phone numbers of witnesses. Ask nearby businesses whether they have video, because footage can be overwritten.
  5. Notify your own insurance company, and find a copy of your policy.
  6. Be careful about giving a recorded statement to the other driver's insurance company before you understand your rights.
  7. Keep all medical records, bills, and proof of missed work.
